Original Poems to Read to Your Baby

By Catherine G

Writing poetry is my favorite hobby, and somehow I have instilled that poetic trait in my children. I am not sure that it was intentional, but it makes me proud in any case. When my kids were babies, I would rock them to sleep, and sing to them. However, I could never remember the words to any lullabies, except for "Rock-a-bye- baby", and something about that one never sounded right to me. I mean, really, why was the cradle in the tree, and what parent would just let their baby fall like that?

So, I would make up my own poems to sing to my children. And last night, my Kaylysa (the 5 year old) was tucking in her baby-doll, and singing a poem to the doll. It was her own version of one of the lullabies that I sang to them when they were babies, and occasionally still, if they wake with a bad dream or something. I was so impressed and proud! She was just naturally creating rhymes, and it was so adorable!

I thought that I would share a few of my favorite poems with you, and maybe you will share them with your little ones. Or be inspired to create your own.

ROCK-A-BYE

Rock-bye darlings
On the hilltop,
A gentle breeze blows,
Your cradles will rock,
The stars shine on darlings,
All through the night,
The moonbeams will keep
You snuggled up tight,
When the morning comes,
The sun will shine,
And the birds will sing For darlings mine.

HUSH

Hush my darlings, go to sleep
Sweet and quiet, your dreams I'll keep
Hush my darlings, no more tears
I will sing away your fears
Hush my darlings, no need to cry
You're safe and loved within our lullaby

LITTLE LOVES

Little loves, go to sleep
Tomorrow is on its way,
Happy dreams are yours to keep
As memories you made today
Little loves, drift away
To sleep with peaceful dreams
Morning will bring a whole new day
Much sooner than it seems
Little loves of mine,
The stars that are above,
Just for you they shine
To show you all my love

Valentine's Day - Personalized Poems

By Peter Tremayne

Sending a Valentine's Day personalized poem is a unique way to let the one you desire know how you feel.

Sending a poem sounds old fashioned and out dated, but a personalized and meaningful poem written in a beautiful card is a gift that will be theirs to keep forever, not simply a commercially produced one.

Obviously there are thousands of beautiful poems in existence written by famous poets, but nothing comes close to a treasured piece of prose which relates to two people, with shared meaning.

As we all know, Valentine's Day gifts can be a little commercial. Picking a card, buying flowers or chocolates and basically going through the usual commercially driven route is what 99% of people do these days.

But a personalized poem is 100% unique and incredibly thoughtful which will make your Valentine's Day card stand out and be remembered.

Often people struggle to get down in words exactly what she/he is trying to say. Most make-do with a few impersonal lines saying; "happy valentine's" and who it's from. A personalized Valentine's poem captures the feelings and sentiments of the sender and emphasizes meaningful words with rhymes.

Not everyone has the finesse and creativity to design a beautiful, romantic poem. But using the experience and flair of a 'poet' can produce for you a personalized poem for Valentine's Day that will live on in the memory of the intended for many years to come.

The process is simple. The sender just needs to provide some information about the person the poem is being designed for. Like how they met, how they make each other feel, their quirkiness, their hopes and dreams etc. Anything you like. The list can be endless!

The poet will then take this information, highlight certain words, structure the poem to create a beautiful set of rhyming verses to create a story within the poem. It doesn't take long and the effects can last a life time.

It clearly shows that the person sending the poem has spent a lot of time and thought for the person receiving it, rather than just purchasing a card or gift from a shop.

This is what makes a Valentine Day personalized poem so special and unique. It's not always about the amount of money we spend on a loved one, but rather the thoughtfulness and time that goes into creating such a unique and personal gift.

What a treasure the poem will be. A lovely memento to keep over the years.

Once your poem is written you can do exactly as you please with it. You have 100% rights to it and can claim it as your own. It can be framed, written in a card, spoken over the phone, recited one to one or even emailed if time is not on your side.

A Valentines Day Personalized Poem - A truly romantic and charming Valentines Day gift.
Let me create for you a unique and romantic, Personalized Valentine's Day Poem that your loved one will treasure for years to come. We guarantee you will be absolutely delighted with the result.

Poetry Tips

By Dennis Siluk Ed.D.

Here are some tips that come to mind, things I use in poetry, and perhaps do not always use, and should:

1—I find [or believe] a ‘fact,’ in poetry, is not poetry, nor can it move the mind’s eye, thoughts, and one’s imagination.

2—I find repetition is, or can be effective, or can be valuable, but not when it shows the lack in, or scarcity of the imagination.

3—I believe, the use of semicolons and commas become or can become hideous, or hazardous if not used wisely. The poem can reek with wrong [ly] breaks.

4—I also believe in genuine poetry, or that, genuine poetry should vibrate; there is a vibration that exists, one needs to find it and use it. A kind of force; or something to carry it; most poetry does not emerge from the page it is written on.

5—Poetry I believe must have been felt as a personal experience. Again I do think the great lyrics (most of those I’ve read, and considered great) are clearly simple in diction.

Note: Fact with truth: modern poetry, has what may be considered an invaluable element to it, but it is nonetheless, the way life is, it is almost a requirement nowadays, as priceless as it is, it costs, and it resides beyond the mind, beyond thought and expression, idiom, appearance, and I hate to name it (as you may already know) it is called: good advertising, like a product, to put it over. Thus, poetry then must be unusual and sensational, a burden it must carry to the first step of the ladder. And when all the good poets are dead, we will find no more truth, I dare say, only detail and reality.

Mixing Poetry with Prose

By Dennis Siluk Ed.D.

In writing modern, or contemporary verse it is easy for anyone to make fun of, or point out what they feel is obscure to their eyes in poetry, as it can be in any writing I suppose, but verse seems to get its share of pro and con, in more than sufficiently amounts, normally attacked, mostly by those not all that interested in verse in the first place. I am not about to turn this writing into some kind of account, but I do want to say a few words on this issue. Some modern poetry is what I call defeatist, grant you, and perhaps too fantastic, and too abstract, or too unreal or perhaps too eccentric—beyond the psychological reality of mans mind. I try not to go in that direction, but I do like plays and prose mixed with poetry, a good narrative in poetry is real life at its highest expressions. And produce good ideas in verse. This freedom I use, and others have, is not new, it was used by Homer, and even the poem of Gilgamish, have threads of this mixture; Shakespeare does it quite well also.

Yes, it is obvious that poetry and prose are different. Prose can flow actually better, free from poetic hang-ups; Poetry on the other hand seems to have more solid points to it, and is slower to read usually, and write of course. In prose you can bring up issues, or matters in the moment, in poetry, you are working on moving the individual, emotionally, more so than in thinking. Nowadays, people have a hard time understanding modern poetry, in comparison to thousands of years ago. Perhaps we lost the plot, theme and insight into much of the story in poetry, and need to make adjustments, and so in prose mixed with poetry we can do that, as long as we remember the poetic value resides in the solid elements it brings.
